BAREFOOT BEACH - YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW

The land was originally under the ordinance of Major General Andrew Jackson, Governor of the Province of the Floridas, dated at Pensacola, Florida, July 21, 1821. The earliest Public Records covering lands in the area now known as Collier County are recorded in Monroe County.

In 1887 the lands became part of newly created Lee County.

When Collier County was created in 1923, Barefoot Beach became part of Collier County. In fact, Barefoot Beach is the northernmost area in Collier County; the area north of Bonita Beach Road is part of Lee County.

The area now known as Barefoot Beach changed hands several times. Finally, in 1974 Lely Estates, a Texas Corporation, owned by the Dutch Van der Lely Family, domiciled in Zug, Switzerland and Netherlands Antilles, both tax heavens,  purchased the land and developed Barefoot Beach.

In the meantime Barefoot Beach has became truly a one of a kind development, and a rare commodity in today's real estate market. Since a couple of years Barefoot Beach is booming. Statistics shows an increase of about 25 percent between 1998 and 1999. In 2000 we have seen even larger increases. Like in other hot areas, investors are starting to buy properties in Barefoot Beach, tear down older homes to make way for more elaborate homes. One of the reasons for the escalating prices is an increasing demand for properties in waterfront communities. There are only a certain number of such land, kicking in the old supply and demand scale.

The recent history of Barefoot Beach is very much about such a YOUNG MAN!
